Very Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Alkaline Glaze, Stamped "J.S. NASH," Marion County, TX origin, third quarter 19th century, finely-potted, vasiform jar with ovoid body and tall, narrow opening, the surface covered in a streaky alkaline glaze with olive and brown hues. Impressed at the shoulder with the mark of Marion County, Texas pottery and iron foundry owner, Jefferson S. Nash, whose workers may have had Edgefield, South Carolina connections. Provenance: Dr. Raymond L. Owen Collection. Excellent overall condition with some wear and minor chips to rim and three small base chips. H 10 1/4".
