Description
King George III (1738-1820) British monarch. George III’s life and reign were marked by a series of military conflicts involving his kingdoms, much of the rest of Europe, and places farther afield in Africa, the Americas and Asia. Early in his reign, Great Britain defeated France in the Seven Years' War, becoming the dominant European power in North America and India. However, many of Britain's American colonies were soon lost in the American Revolutionary War. Further wars against revolutionary and Napoleonic France from 1793 concluded in the defeat of Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. 11” x 14” document signed, not dated but believed to be 1779, the original order for the establishment of “…Sir John Burgoyne’s Regiment of Light Dragoons….” As well as, “…Two Regiments of Foot for 50 days…Lieut Col.s Humberstone’s Reg. of Foot for 315 Days…Colonel Bruce’s Regiment of Foot for 315 Days…” Front and back, signed by the King at the upper left. The document is double matted with a small color image of George and a brass plaque, with the document displayed front and back to 25” x 15 ½”. Remarkable and historic.
