Paul Travis (American 1891-1975)- "The Offering, Belgian Congo"- oil on artist's board mounted to panel, 1933. 56 x 40" A major work by Travis based on the expedition that he led to Africa for Karamu House, the Cleveland Museum of National History, and the Cleveland Museum of Art in 1927-8. Paintings based on this expedition represent some of Travis' most important works. Exhibited: The 16th Annual May Show- Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland, OH 1933; "Century of Progress", Chicago Art Institute, Chicago, IL, 1933-4; "Paul Travis in Focus, Travels in Africa 1927-28", Metro Art Gallery, Cuyahoga County College, Cleveland, OH, This exhibit travelled to several other regional venues.
