Description
Danvers, Henry. A TREATISE OF BAPTISM: WHEREIN THAT OF BELIEVERS, AND THAT OF INFANTS, IS EXAMINED BY THE SCRIPTURES. London: for Francis Smith, 1674. 2nd ed. 8vo. [52], 387, [1] pp. (some misnumbering.) Modern 1/4 calf over marbled boards, in period style. Title with light chipping to margins, two leaves with marginal chips (no loss), three leaves with very short closed marginal tears, front margin with light worming (mostly to first half of text, no loss), else only occasional light foxing and mild consistent age-tone, Very Good. *************************************** Danvers was a somewhat controversial 17th c. General Baptist preacher. He wrote several works, but the present work would create for him a number of adversaries such as Obadiah Wills, Richard Blinman, and Richard Baxter. Facing unfavorable circumstances due to a royal proclamation, Danvers escaped to the Dutch Republic where he would remain until his death in 1687. [ESTC R9922]
