Description
Manuscript letter, from Captain Cole to William Blathwayt. March 1704. 1 pg., laid paper. 12.75" x 8". Left margin remargined and with paper repair of chip, edges fraying with slight loss particularly to lower corner, one short closed marginal tear, a bit soiled and toned. ****************************************** Letter setting forth a plan for a convoy of ships sailing to America. William Blathwayt helped in the British Government's administering the American colonies. The present letter, by "Captain Cole," sets out a detailed plan for a convoy to the Americas and particularly to "[the] Plantations of America." Other details include when the ships should sail from which locations, how many Men of War along with them, and similar details. Captain Cole seems none too convinced that his proposal will be met with approval, but is confident that his plan is the best. "I believe this proposal will meet with its opposers, I wish they would propose a better (as it is, I foresee great evils), but sure I am this has not the evils in it as I now see we labour under. I should be glad to see reasons objected against this, I believe I could easily confute them."
