Description
This is a sweet and serene example of African Art from the Fang peoples of Gabon, west Africa. carved from a single bock of wood and featuring two faces, accented with white kaolin clay and with a sweet smile. The delicate features and light complexions of ngontang mask faces suggest both feminine and otherworldly qualities. Among the Fang, it was danced on nights of the full moon, Perhaps this reflects Fang associations of femininity with cycles of the moon: lunar motifs often adorn the faces of ngontang masks. The mask itself measures 15 x 11 inches. A durable metal display stand will also be included.
