Description
Large wooden ruyi with three jade inserts from the 18th - 19th century. The ruyi is smoothly carved out of wood. The jade carvings are all out of white jade stone and are carved with auspicious symbols. The smallest jade carving features a central flower surrounded by a ring with tendrils. This is representing the wheel of life. The middle jade carving depicts a royal banner, endless knot, and a conch shell. The largest jade carving depicts a parasol, the sacred vase, a fish, and lotus leaves. In the center is a shou symbol.
Dimensions are 21 inches long by 5 1/2 inches wide by. All measurements are approximate.
Provenance: From a Chicago estate. The family was in China in the early 1900's.

Condition
There are some chips in the wood and it may have been repaired. The jade is in overall good condition.
