Return of the Cable Cars: Melanie Taylor Kent created a very limited number of her famous homage to the San Francisco Cable cars, on porcelain. Due to the difficulty and expense of printing on porcelain, this limited edition was never completed and only ac few pieces are known to be in circulation today. It is signed and numbered by the artist, and framed in a striking commemorative gold molding. This complex image was designed to celebrate the historic return of the Powell Street cable cars, after they were removed for repair and remodeling of the entire system during the 1990's. Slices of the original gigantic steel cables that pulled and lowered the trolley cars, can still be purchased as souvenirs at the base of the Powell Street turnaround, near the famous Ghiradelli Square.
