Item: Stoneware bottle marked 'Smith & Snows, Whiteroot, Pat. JULY.17.66, ITD&CO.1873'. Henry Smith and Hiram Snow of Dover, NH patented their compound for a fermented root beverage in 1866 and the result was this root beer, which they then bottled and sold to the public.
