Description
The lot features three Pre-Historic pipe bowls. The collection of three shows two figural effigy carved pipes and one sandstone. Each is a fine, early example from the American Midwest. The pipe appears to show the early period correct drill and carved marks indicative of their early age. The three pipes are all pictured in the 2009 publication/book “The Mark Francis Collection of Indian Art” page 28 figure 38, 40, and 41. Provenance: From the personal collection of renowned collector and foremost expert on war clubs and tomahawks, Mark Francis. The Francis collection piece has been authenticated and published. The largest pipe is 2 7/8"H x 6"L x 1.5"W. The smallest is 1.75"x1.25"x3.5".
