Two Pairs of Japanese Lacquered and Inlaid Metal Abumi Stirrups, 19th century
12 inches long (30.5 cm)

The pair of red and black lacquered stirrups with gold takamaki-e wave and orb decoration, the pair of metal stirrups with inlaid brass and silver foliage and flowers.

Condition

Heavy cracking to the lacquered pair with some missing slivers exposing substrate, some loss of inlay to the other pair, otherwise with surface wear indicative of age and common use.
