a group of plates to illustrate the work by Johannes Caspar Gevartius, depicting the entry of Cardinal Infante Ferdinand of Spain as Governor in Antwerp, in 1635, comprising the engraved pictorial title with triumphal arch surmounted by portrait roundel of Philip IV, frontispiece three-quarter length standing portrait of Ferdinand, 3 elevations and 1 plan of triumphal arches, Ferdinand's victory at the battle of Nördlingen, the Austrian dynastic family tree, 6 allegorical panels including Ferdinand being crowned by angels in a triumphal chariot, a long 6-sheet panel of the portico containing dynastic portrait and allegorical statuary, and a pair of 3-sheet panels of ornametal balustrades, engravings by Jacob Neeffs and Theodor van Thulden, v.s., the single plates 255 x 290mm. to 500 x 335mm., the portico panel 305 x 2350mm., the pair each 355 x 1170mm. and 355 x 1240mm., joined panels all linen-backed, some browning and spotting, loose in later half-morocco boards, gilt-lettered title on spine, folio, Antwerp, Johannes Meursius, [1641]. Recording Rubens' ground-breaking designs for such a grand ceremonial entry, in its complete form, this work is regarded as the most famous and magnificent of all fête books.
