Description
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, ca. 200 BCE to 200 CE. A terracotta gable roofed house, open in the front and back, with two couples sitting inside the house, one couple sits arm in arm, the other couple places their hands upon their knees/hips. Extensive negative resist detailing in black and red, the traditional diamond motif on the rooftop and walls of the edifice, painted highlights on the figures. Some remaining cream surface pigment as well. A wonderful example from this shaft tomb culture! Size: 5-3/4" x 4-1/2" (14.6 x 11.4 cm). Provenance: Ex-private Olan collection, California, by family descent, acquired 1960 to 1970.
