Provenance: private collection, Houston, Texas
Born in Dallas, Texas, Reveau Bassett studied with Frank Reaugh and W. R. Leigh, with Joseph Pennell at the Art Students League, New York, and took criticisms from Charles C. Curran at the National Academy of Design, New York. Bassett often accompanied Reaugh on sketching trips in the West and taught at the Art Institute of Dallas. He assisted on the Texas history mural for the Hall of State for the 1936 Texas Centennial Exposition and painted dioramas for the Dallas Museum of Natural History. He exhibited at the Southern States Art League, National Academy of Design and with the Lone Star Printmakers. Bassetts work is in the Dallas Museum of Art; Grace Cultural Center, Abilene; Panhandle Plains Historical Museum, Canyon; and other important collections. Bassett was a member of the Southern States Art League, the Dallas Art Association, Lone Star Printmakers and the Frank Reaugh Art Club.
