Gaspard Théodore Mollien (1796 - June 1872) was a French diplomat and explorer. In 1817 he explored Cap-Vert (Senegal) and traveled the Senegal River. During the following year he was commanded by the French government to locate the sources of the Senegal and Gambia rivers. In 1819 he was awarded the Cross of the Legion of Honor for his African exploits. Abbey Travel 273; Howgego II M51.

Boards worn along lower edges and corners, endpapers tanned and spotted; frontispiece foxed with light offset on title page, some offset from map on first page of text, mostly clean internally, save for some offset from aquatint plates on facing leaves; very good.
