Description
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. While most collectors of Pre-Columbian pottery are familiar with pups from the Colima region, canines from Jalisco are relatively rare. This example, comprised of hollow-molded brownware, stands on all fours with a bulbous form, upturned tail, and a flared rim atop the back. The visage shows an elongated snout, flaring nostrils that are somewhat pig-like (though no pigs existed in ancient Jalisco), an open mouth with wagging tongue, and coffee-bean shaped eyes. Size: 8" L x 5.375" H (20.3 cm x 13.7 cm)
