Description
Mexico, ca. 1800 CE. A hand-carved, painted and gilded wood santo depicting the Christ child, seated with his right hand in a gesture of blessing, his left hand presenting a cross-topped blue orb, a symbol of divine dominion. Christ's tranquil visage is finely delineated with glass inlay eyes presenting a dewy ethereal glow, arched brows, rosy cheeks, and red lips, crowned by a wavy brown coiffure. His golden robes feature a floral motif and glistening gold leaf over red pigment adorn the cascading folds. Size: 5.5" W x 11.25" H (14 cm x 28.6 cm)
