Description
Central America, Guatemala, Spanish Colonial style, ca. 1900. A hand carved and polychrome 19th century Cristo Popular in a striking gilt-wood with a green painted cross, all mounted upon a stylized summit of Golgotha, outside the city of Jerusalem, although the precise location of the crucifixion has intrigued Christians for centuries. The sculpture brilliantly captures the drama and sorrow of the tragedy with a graphic depiction. Size: 19"H x 10-7/8"W.
