Description
Late 19th century English Sterling Silver adorned Leather officer's belt. Crafted by Joseph Jennens & Co., Brigmingham, England. Jennens & Co., a reknowned military accoutrement maker dating back to 1807. The strap measures approx. 33-1/2"L x 2-1/4"W. Embellished with Sterling Silver loop, buckle (frame & prong), and end tip. Along with two "cannon prickers" secured to a safety mount with two belcher chains. "Cannon prickers" have an important role among calvarymen, once purpotedly used to clear the toucholes of calvary pistols. Aternatively they are more importantly recognized as sabotage tools, used by being hammered into the fuse holes of enemy cannons and then broken off rendering the artillery useless. Stamped with Joseph Jennens & Co. trefoil hallmark. Dated for Birmingham, England circa 1890. Shipping to be $30 + insurance in US.
