    Ernest Hemingway (1899-1961) was an American novelist, short story writer, and journalist. He became well known for his understated style which had a strong influence on 20th century writing. In addition to his writing many American classics, he was also well known for his adventurous lifestyle and public persona. His wartime experiences formed the basis for his novel A Farewell to Arms (1929).
