Vintage Dorothy Stanley Emmons(American, 1891-1960) very scarce etching. "End of the Trail" signed and titled in pencil by the artist, c 1930s. A woman and horse looking out over a mountain vista. In Frame measures 12"x14.50"x.50". Weight is 1 pd 7 oz. PROVENANCE: A Charleston SC Private Estate. The daughter of photographer , Dorothy Emmons was a painter, etcher, illustrator and writer. The painter, etcher, illustrator and author Dorothy Emmons was the daughter and lifelong companion of well known American photographer Chansonetta Stanley Emmons of the Stanley Steamer Motor Carriage Company family. Emmons studied art at Wellesley College and in Ogunquit, Maine, with American Impressionist Charles Woodbury. Other teachers were Aldro Hibbard, George Noyes, and George E Browne. She lived in Newton, Massachusetts but also painted in Charleston SC, North Carolina; Savannah, Georgia; Florida, and Bermuda. She was a member of the Copley Society and of the Massachusetts Federated Women's Club from whom she won exhibition prizes in 1933 and 1934. PROVENANCE: A Charleston SC Private Estate.
