The Unburnt Bush or Burning Bush Mother of God is based on the miracle witnessed by Moses in the Old Testament. The story is believed to represent the Theotokos giving birth to Christ, while remaining a virgin. The symbols of the four evangelists are depicted in the corners of the green diamond, while archangels are depicted in the red diamonds. The icon has become more complex and symbolic over time.
