Description
Rifle octagonal target barrel stamped "J. LONG" on top flat near breech. Stamp decorated percussion lockplate marked "WHITEMORE WOLFE / DUFF & CO / PITTSBURGH PA" in center. Plain brass furniture and double set triggers, full length walnut stock and replaced wooden ramrod. Very good condition; barrel retains a dark brown patina, tang has been repaired and sights have been replaced. Excellent markings. Lock retains a dark brown patina with some pitting around bolster. Brass unpolished. Stock very good, refinished with a professionally repaired crack in wrist. James Long was a gunsmith in Beaver Springs, Snyder County, Pennsylvania and lived from 1825 to 1887.
