Manufactured in 1934. This shotgun was introduced in 1930. It is considered Winchester's finest effort regarding to quality, liability, and strength. Despite being offered as production gun, it was and is a custom hand built shotgun. Each Model 21 built has a "personality of its own". Standard grade, solid matted rib, checkered walnut pistol grip stock, with rare splinter forend. The hardware on the splinter forend matches serial number on gun and has a forward motion button release. On the 1935 sample order form for the Model 21, there is a box to choose either Standard or Beaver Tail forend. All standard grade forearms were splinter type or regular forearms until 1934 when the beaver tail forearm was offered as another option for an extra $8.25. Barrels are stamped, "Model 21 Winchester 12 Gauge" with address at breech. Full matted rib, single bead, mere bores, 90% original finish with some thinning and light muzzle wear. Checkering is wearing thin in spots on forearm. The boxlock retains 85% of original blue, thinning on carry edges. Trigger guard retains 35% blue. Buttstock is excellent, proud to metal, oil finished, few dings, has the Winchester logo black composite buttplate. Lock up is tight as new. Obviously this shotgun has seen some use but it would be impossible to buy a better shotgun at a better price.
