Description
This a Second Model due to the fact that the old style octagon barrel has the second issue barrel release and second issue square butt rosewood grips, and the serial number places it early the second range 1860-1862. It has the seven shot non fluted cylinder with 1859 patent date. The octagon barrel has standard blue finish with silver plated brass frame, perfect barrel legends and 70% original barrel blue. 85-95% original silver plating with brass showing through high areas. Rosewood grips are near mint. Indexes and locks up perfectly and has strong rifling. These were manufactured in the first 20,000 revolvers with 1855-1859 patent dates. Comes in original period red leather lined fitted holster with flap. Holster has aged checking and the stitching has come loose as has the belt loop, but is all there. It appears to have been with this gun forever. Condition is collector quality. This revolver comes with copies of military records for one Captain George W. Meers of the 14th New York State Militia and fought for the union during the Civil War, and was a staff officer for General Abner Doubleday. He was an agent of First Regiment of New York Heavy Artillery. The right side of the frame is engraved "G.W. Meers C. Co. 14th Regt. Mysm.".
