Description
Manufactured circa 1926, the first year of production of the New Double. This is an example of a rare salesman's cutaway Ithaca New Double shotgun. The left side of the shotgun features two openings on the forearm, most of the receiver and three on the wrist. These cut-outs would allow salesmen to demonstrate to prospective clients both the quality of fit and finish, as well as demonstrate how the gun operates. The top of the barrel is marked "SMOKELESS POWDER STEEL" and "MADE IN U.S.A.". The matching serial number is on the water table, barrel flat and inside of the forearm hardware. Single brass bead sight on the matte solid rib. Cocking indicators, automatic tang mounted safety, blue finish with casehardened receiver and break lever and mounted with a multi-point checkered walnut forearm and pistol grip stock with a horn grip cap and black composite buttplate. Retains 98% original blue finish with light muzzle wear. The receiver and break lever retain 98% original vivid case colors. Forearm has a small crack on right side. Furniture is blued. Buttstock has an expertly repaired on right side of wrist with a small piece of replaced wood. Trigger guard retains 95% original blue finish. Lock-up is tight as new.
