The capstan is small on a pommel that is surmounted with a heavy teardrop that bears nice molding. The raised edges are prevalent throughout the stately hilt. Stirrup knuckle bow has two half-moon buildups at its origin and a heavy line, which blends with the backstrap, and is carried into the slotted counter guard. The slots are bridged by circles of heavy silver and marked on the upper portion of the guard “I B” in Roman, capitals surmounted by crown in a conforming punch and on the underside of the knuckle bow is a different hallmark, “I B” in a rectangular punch separated with a crown bearing more lobes above. The grips are completely covered with four strands of chevron-shaped twisted wire in between each flat band. There is a red felt buffer between the hilt and the blade. The straight tapered spadroon blade has a broad center fuller and a smaller rudimentary fuller. The etching on the blade is vine work with a crude patriotic eagle and stars around the head and a stand of arms on both sides. Hilt: 5-1/4”. Total: 32”.
