Description
Africa, Yoruba, mid to late 20th century CE. An articulated, painted, carved wood doll depicting a topless female with a classic Yoruba face with wide-open large eyes, scarification marks on the cheeks, a wide nose, and full lips, this visage topped with a wavy coiffure of black yarns. Though topless, she wears a gingham skirt, red sleeves that bridge her shoulders to forearms,and a necklace comprised of rope and and painted wood beads. Size: 21.5" L x 18.75" W at widest (54.6 cm x 47.6 cm)
Provenance: Ex-Adeon Gallery, Chicago, IL, acquired prior to 1970.
