Description
Burslem, England, early 1900s, for James Macintyre & Company, baluster form with delicate tubelined tulips and primroses in blues and pale greens, Macintyre brown print mark with green Moorcroft signature, 8 in.,. Condition: tight spider crack in bottom, otherwise good condition. Notes: The Moorcroft company notes its founding as 1897 when young William Moorcroft was given studio space at James Macintyre & Company and developed his now famous Florian Ware with tubelined decoration, which won a gold medal at the St. Louis World's Fair in 1904. Moorcroft established his own pottery in 1913 and produced an extensive array of moderately-priced domestic tableware items in addition to the tubelined, hand-painted art pottery. Queen Mary, a keen collector of his work, granted the company a royal warrant in 1928. The company continues in business to this day.. Provenance: Private Collection, Weaverville, North Carolina
