  • Condition
The Old Curiosity Shop and Barnaby Rudge, which first appeared in Dickens' periodical Master Humphrey's Clock those same years. The covers, paper surfaced marbled hardcover boards, leather spines with debossed gilt lettering and design, are securely attached at the spines, all of which are somewhat worn. Volume I's spine is more worn, with cracks and a small missing piece. There are surface splits to some spine sides, and shallow fraying to their ends. The boards, with leather-tipped corners, are worn to the edges, bumped at the outside corners, and with surface wear to the marble patterns, but with no prominent stains. The inside cover spreads have crossed out initials, and a few notations. I believe these are the only writings. There are no stamps or other attachments. The pages (vol. 1 - iv & 306; vol. II - vi & 306 and vol. III - vi & 426) have recurrent spot stains, most light, and light creases, but no stains, obscure the lettering or art, all of which is unfaded and clearly legible. There is shallow edge wear, including a few minimal tears. The George Cattermole & Hablot Browne (Phiz) illustrations are in good condition. The binding is secure, with no loose or missing pages.
