Two stoneware vases with leaves and protrusions, France, 1890-94
Both with circular AUGUSTE DELAHERCHE stamp and numbers
9 1/4", 3 1/4"
Provenance: Collection of Martin Eidelberg, New York
The vase with leaves, resembling an artichoke, stems from a French movement in the early 1890s that sought inspiration in vegetal forms. In turn, Delaherche vases such as this influenced the young Grueby when he saw them in Chicago in 1893.
