Item Details
Description
Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. A beautifully sculpted lion's paw, with a column top and a spike at the top for attachment to the casket that this served as a foot for. The emphasized digits and claws suggest a keen awareness of actual lion anatomy. There are incredible details, even down to lines cast in to suggest fur. Size: 1.7" W x 3.1" H (4.3 cm x 7.9 cm)
