Francis Turner Palgrave (1824-1897) was a British anthologist and poet, though he is best remembered for his work as a critic. His criticism is considered to demonstrate fine and sensitive tact, quick intuitive perception, and generally sound judgment. Palgrave's principal contribution to the development of literary taste was contained in his "Golden Treasury of English Songs and Lyrics", an anthology of the best poetry in the language, as arranged by Palgrave.

Condition

Slight spine slant, and a few surface scuffs, but no stains of note, no tears, no color fade, and no looseness to the connection at the spine. The marbled inside cover spreads are clean and unfaded, as are the page edges, gilt all around. There are a number of creases from corner turn-downs, but most pages have none. There are no tears. The binding is tight throughout, with no loose or missing pages. There are no stamps or other attachments. Few pencil notations, but no ink or other indelible marks. All the text and the frontispiece illustration (of Tennyson) are clean and unfaded, with no notable stains to any page faces.
