Description
An extremely ornate 19th century French gilt & enameled mixed metal monstrance. This large and impressive monstrance is comprised of an immensely ornate exposition window medallion encircled with champleve enameled Gregorian Benediction hymn in Latin. Reading: "Ecce panis Angelorum, Factus cibus viatorum..." which roughly translates to "Hail, angelic Bread of Heaven, Now the pilgrim’s hoping leaven...". Surrounded with open work Acanthus and Pine Cone decoration, along with a cross form border, having sunburst rays emanating outward from the center. Rising up from budding flower with outstretched branches. Situated atop a knopped center column with two spherical nodes. The larger decorated with six round champleve enamel medallions. The column in tapered shape applied to a hexafoil base with three circular champleve medallions in depiction of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. Sitting atop six reticulated scrolled floral feet. Further decorated with engraved patterns and high relief florals. Measures approx. 26-1/2" H x 14-1/2" W x 9-1/2" diameter at base. Will not ship, we can refer local shippers.
