Description
China, Qing Dynasty, 19th century CE. A hand-carved wooden figure seated on a lion. The figure is of a man with an angry face, shown in a dynamic pose, with one foot on the ground, the other lifted, as if he is ready to spring; his robes flow as if in action as well. His clothing is wonderfully detailed, with what look like brocade leggings underneath a robe with wide red borders. Atop his head is a square hat that suggests he is a learned man at the Imperial Court. In one hand he holds a small square tablet and has one hand raised. Size: 6.7" W x 11.25" H (17 cm x 28.6 cm)
