East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A fine pair of hand-carved architectural panels or corbels featuring immortal figures known as Luohan - one of Liu Haichan, a transcendent immortal and the embodiment of wealth or prosperity, and the other of He Xiangu with a lotus. These panels are symmetrical with intricate openwork tree branches and foliage, the figures leaning outward away from the side tenon that would secure the corbels to a wall. Size: 16" L x 4" W x 24" H (40.6 cm x 10.2 cm x 61 cm)

Condition
Age and exposure commensurate wear, but overall excellent preservation. Stable pressure fissures throughout both. Nicks and chips to high pointed areas. Figures and details are sharp. Weathered patina through and light mineral deposits.
