Description
Silk on linen with four blocks of text divided by bands of polychrome florals and matching border. The inscription reads from top to bottom as follows: "Make much of Precious Time while in your Power/Be careful well to husband every Hour./For time will come when you shall fore lament/The unhappy minutes that you have mifpent" 2nd block "If you defire to worship God arishe/First in the morning pray and last at night/Crave for his bleffing on your labours all./And in Diflrefs for his Afliflance call."; 3rd block "Return the kindnefles that you recieve/As far as your ability gives leave./Nothing is more unmammered and rude./Than that vile temper of Ingatitude." 4th block "By thi singenous Maids/may fee what by the/needle wrought/may be/Elizabeth Nicks/Ended this sampler/my 14 year of her/age July 20 1745". Sight 8 1/2" x 11 1/2" in period pine frame, 10 1/2" x 13 3/4".
Condition
A few scattered holes, colors still bright and slightly more loss of linen along lower left margins, still an impressive sampler.
