Description
EXTRAORDINARY, RARE, 15th Century Ming Dynasty Chinese DZI bead inlaid gilt bronze Vairochana Buddha, principal Buddha within Vajrayana Buddhism.

Finely cast in a formal appearance. Decorated in front with a gilded demi-florette. Dressed in robes, fall in curved diagonal folds, the left shoulder is covered with a red and gold trimmed robe. The right arm remains bare according to monastic custom. . The Buddha gazes forward, athe eyes and lips are naturalistic painted beneath the blue-black hair on the head is piled in a tuft on top with a single gold ornament adorning the crown. Between the eyebrows is a white dot (urna) and adorning the neck are three classical curved beauty lines. The earlobes are long. Both hands are held to the heart performing a graceful variation of the dharma chakra mudra or hand gesture indicating teaching (literally, turning or setting in motion the Wheel of Buddhist law). Seated in Dhyanasana, with the legs are folded in vajra posture, right over left with the soles of the feet facing upward, upon a round double lotus throne.

This Buddha sculpture is uniquely characterized with a dzi bead inlaid on the central underbase.

Crafted out of bronze and gilt, this Buddha statue exudes a magnificent aura and an enticing visual appeal. This gilt bronze piece is the result of superb craftsmanship, and serves as an excellent example of an Amitayus Buddha statue.

Indian script inscribed on the left side, with Chinese script on right, read: in the Ninth years, ninth months, ninth days, of YongLe Reign Period, to wish with peace and auspicious fortune. ( correspondence to year 1411 AD).

Condition
Over all in EXCELLENT condition, with normal anomalies in nature, sign of stressed surface, minor scratch & dent. Surface traced wear and or declined to gilding. Normal, considering ages and wears.
