Description

Antique 18th century c. 1770 -1790, "Remember The Giver" Exquisite Battersea Patch Box. Measures 1.50x1.25x1". Retains the original label from the well respected Guitel Montague, 599 Madison Ave. in NYC. The Battersea boxes, which originated in the mid-18th Century, are covered in enamel or porcelain. The originals were small, some as tiny as a dime, and made of copper covered with a white enamel embellished with mythological beasts, portraits, classical and religious themes. Their purpose was both decorative and sentimental, as this box is.
