Description
Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stenciled "T.F. REPPERT. / GREENSBORO. PA.," circa 1880, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and flattened rim, featuring T.F. Reppert maker's stenciling surrounding a stenciled floral motif. Shoulder and base with freehand stripes, the base additionally decorated with a freehand "2" flanked by flourishes. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. About 1850 James and Lee Hamilton began making stoneware pottery in Greensboro, Pa. James sold his interest in the pottery to T.F. Reppert in 1880 and through family connections and intermarriage the company eventually became Williams and Reppert. Measures 6.50x6.50x12". Weight is 8 pds.
