Both dolls have papier-mâché shoulder-heads and are on firm leather bodies with narrow waists and wooden lower arms and legs with molded and painted flat shoes, known to collectors as "Milliners Models". The taller one is an 1850's doll with so-called "covered wagon" style hair and is mounted to a round wooden base. The slightly shorter doll is most likely 1840's and has an elaborate hairdo with Spaniel-type curls and molded braid in back of head as well as tightly wrapped strands of either hair or thread encircling the head like a headband. Both show typical age wear, especially on nose tips. The slightly smaller doll has a replaced right foot. (Good). Largest: 13-1/2'' T.
