Alex Katz is one of the most important contemporary artists. He is known for his series of portraits, representing the people of his acquaintance, but also celebrities from film and fashion. Here is a portrait of his wife Ada.
Condition:
The sheet is in a very good condition, showing only the lightest pressure marks form handling. It is 55 x 75.3 cm in size.
Alex Katz (b. 1927)
Alex Katz was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1927. He studied at the Cooper Union Art School in New York and the renowned Skowhegan School of painting and sculpture in Maine. His work is attributed to Modern Realism and Pop art. Most of his works are portraits, but he also created landscapes and architectural images. In 1954 the Roko Gallery in New York presented the first solo-exhibition of his work. In 1974 the Whitney Museum of American Art organized a travelling exhibition of Alex Katz’s prints. Ever since, Katz has exhibited his work internationally. His work is also part of prominent private and public collections. (cko)
