Martin Hall & Co. Ltd. – manufacturing silversmiths, partnership established in 1846 in Sheffield with John Roberts and his apprentice Ebenzer Hall
Maker’s mark Martin Hall & Co. Ltd., sterling standard, Sheffield town marks, date letters ‘b’ (1919), ‘e’ (1922) and ‘I’ (1926)
Bases additionally stamped with ‘9650.4’ (teapot), ‘59650.4 (milk jug) and ‘9650.4’ (sugar bowl)
1 teapot, 1 milk jug, 1 sugar bowl, in corresponding design
Bulbous teapot with multiply profiled vaulted hinged cover, scroll handle and knob
Milk jug with broad, overhanging spout and rounded handle, the sugar bowl with two scroll handles, both with gilt interior
Bulbous bodies decorated with slightly curved folds, round feet

Decorative and classic Sheffield tea set
The firm Martin Hall & Co. Ltd. was a successful firm which had a factory in Sheffield as well as several showrooms in London, Sydney, Birmingham and Glasgow. Furthermore the firm participated at the famousGreat Exhibition of the Works of Industry of all Nations in London in 1851. Since this was very effective, further World Fairs in England and Australia followed. Offered set originates from the last years of production and is thus an important witness of the last creative period, since in 1936 the company was struck off the register.
Condition:
The set is in a very good condition with minor signs of age and wear. The dimensions of the teapot measure 15 x 28 x 12.2 cm, the milk jug 8.2 x 14.8 x 6.9 cm and the sugar bowl 10.7 x 18.9 x 9.8 cm. The overall weight is approx. 999 g. (nlu)
