Description
Northwestern North America, Tlingit peoples, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. Tlingit pipes consist of straight or slightly curved stems of wood, bone, or other materials and a bowl composed of a piece of metal or stone stuck into a hole at the end. This stem is in a delightful anthropomorphized beaver shape, complete with enormous front teeth and a small beaver tail with a cross-hatched design on the back. The carving is well done and incorporates the animals' bodies into the shape of the stem. Size: 1.2" W x 4.9" H (3 cm x 12.4 cm)
