Description
An Edwardian silver visiting card case, the curved rectangular form having foliate scroll engraving throughout and central vacant cartouche, hallmarked John Rose, Birmingham 1901, length measuring 8.2 cm. Together with an early twentieth century silver mounted aide-memoire, the plain rectangular case suspended on a chain with finger ring and opening to a faux leather lined compartmentalised interior with single ivory page and a retractable pencil, case only hallmarked Horace Woodward & Co Ltd., Birmingham, date letter worn, length measuring 10 cm. (2).
Condition
Both items display some general wear, tarnishing, surface marks and scratches. A few minor dints and bumps and surface nicks to both. Hinges to both appear in good working order. The hallmarks to the card case are clear and legible. On the aide-memoire, the material inner appears in fairly good overall condition, a couple of small holes, minor losses and some fading. Writing present on the ivory page. The hallmarks on the case are quite rubbed, especially the date letter. The suspension chain, finger ring and pencil appear unhallmarked.
