Description
A pair of George III Irish silver basting spoons, Old English pattern with punched borders and crested terminal below an eight pointed star motif, hallmarked John Osborne, Dublin 1792, and four similarly decorated teaspoons, Dublin, hallmarks very worn, three with maker's mark MK for Michael Keating (1762-1800). Together with two Irish silver Fiddle pattern table spoons, both crested, one hallmarked John Power, Dublin 1814 and the other Dublin 1803, maker's mark indistinct, and a Fiddle pattern sauce ladle with initialled terminal, hallmarked Thomas Wilkes Barker, London 1805. Weight 12.35 ozt (384 grams).
Condition
All pieces display general wear, tarnishing , surface marks and scratches consistent with age and use. The bowls display some pitting marks and surface bumps and heavier wear around the edges and tips but they have generally faired quite well and retained shape. Loss of detail to areas of the decoration on the stems of the two Irish basting spoons and four teaspoons, very worn in places. Some of the hallmarks on the reverse of stems are quite squashed or distorted.
