Copper-engraved map, hand-colored. 47x64 cm (18½x25¼").
Map of northeastern Russia, extending to Bering's Strait and the Aleutian Islands, and south to Sakhalin Island and Hokkaido. The map was compiled from the maps of the Imperial Academy at St. Petersburg, with additional information from Cook's exploration of Kamchatka. It shows the discoveries of Cook, Petuszcoff and Bering, with a note on Bering's Island referring to his death there in 1741.
Condition
A few marginal repairs on verso, very good or better.
