Description
Ancient East Asia, Northeast China, Hongshan culture, Neolithic Period, ca. 3800 to 2700 BCE. A fine jade pendant engraved with a stylized visage of a zoomorphic being, made from a mottled pale green and white stone. The face is comprised of wide, circular eyes, pointed ears, and the long nose and thin lip create a sheep or camelid-like presentation. The surface is highly polished, verso is smooth and flat, and the forehead is pierced for suspension. Size: 2.5" L x 2.25" W (6.4 cm x 5.7 cm)
