A vivid portrayal of the people and country. Smyth was a British national working for the Siam Government. He was an official in the newly-created Department of Mines and Geology, and traveled widely to frontier provinces that were undergoing the process of both cartographic and administrative incorporation into Siam. This set formerly of the Louisville Free Public Library.

Wear, soiling, and some staining to covers, cloth peeling from top half of spine on Vol. 1, library markings at heel of spines; hinges cracked, perforated libray stamps and some tears to folding maps, library pockets at rear pastedowns, 1" closed tear at bottom page edges running through most of vol. 2, map at rear of Vol.2 separated at fold; good.
