A VERY RARE CHINESE CLOISONNE ENAMEL BABY PEACOCK CENSER

The precious peacock is representative of the heavenly Phoenix on earth. It is one of the Twelve Symbols of Sovereignty. With its hundred eyes on its tail it is said to activate good luck, fame and to promote public admiration from other people. Writers say that the majestic peacock is able to relight the fires of a relationship with its fiery energy. In the decorative arts, the peacock symbolizes beauty and dignity.

During the Ming dynasty, the peacock represented rank, power, divinity and beauty. It is also associated with the goddess Guan Yin. The peacock can devour snakes and changes evil into beauty. The peacock is said to bring protection and shelters the owner with its holiness. Gilt wire, detailed enamel work.
